AMPERA wins European Car of the Year Award - 2012

Vauxhall Ampera wins European Car of the Year, 2012

The Geneva Motor Show was the venue for the ceremony to announce the winner of European Car of the Year 2012 & this year the accolade goes to the revolutionary Vauxhall Ampera, Extended Range Electric Vehicle.  Ampera was up against some stiff opposition but the Ampera (along with sister vehicle the Chevrolet Volt) was the undisputed winner with 330 points against VW Up (281) and Ford Focus (256).

The Ampera emerged as the joint overall winner in a field of seven COTY finalists. Initially, 35 recently launched vehicles entered the contest. The selection criteria applied by the judges were based on attributes such as design, comfort, performance and especially innovative technologies as well as efficiency – areas where the Ampera excels. It proves that the influencers in the industry recognise the real world possibilities and flexibility of range extender technology and that Vauxhall are at the forefront in bringing this technology to market so this prestigious accolade is not only fantastic for the Ampera but also for the Griffin brand as a whole as this is only the fourth time in the 48 year history of the award that it has gone to a Vauxhall

Not only that but it also recognises what an important milestone the Ampera represents in the history of the car - a truly pioneering product.
